Omagh to Malin Head

L-R, Joe, Ewart, Kieran, Philip, Erwin and Robert.
Job done. At Malin Head.
Joe
did return with his knees nicely bandaged up. A check was made on Manny,
he may get out, they have to wait on the consultants visit later. So six of us
left the B&B and cycled back to Omagh on our way to Malin Head. We
would have a minibus and car with the bikes and David in a car would call into
Enniskillen to hopefully lift Manny and bring him to Malin for the finish.
Due to a parade in Derry, the car would travel through Donegal and get food, the
minibus would travel with the cyclists, and if it got held up badly the car
would be waiting at the scheduled stop point at the Foyle Bridge.
Everybody
was glad this was the last day, nothing much
happened today I think everybody was just kipping their heads down, we stopped
for a short time in Strabane where put our order in for our lunch, where the car
would leave us.
We
managed to get through Ok, the minibus was only slightly delayed and the car was
waiting for us at the Cityside of the Foyle Bridge in Londonderry. We were
informed that Manny would not be getting out today, he was in better form but
hey wanted to be sure of no relapses and that he would strengthen more.
We
set of on our last 30 miles for
Malin Head, but it was quit hilly
ahead from memory, we were enjoying the last long flat road up the Foyle estuary,
from Muff to near Quigley's Point before hitting the hills.
The
first hill is a long steady climb on which we spread out, and gathered together
in a group after the downhill as we went to Carndonagh and to Malin town.
Our last section of flat road from Malin town to near the Five Finger Strand was
soon behind us as we completed the hilly section to Malin Head.
The
group remained together until there were a few miles to go, it began to split,
not quite a race but just to get finished.
By 15:30 we had finished, I would like all
those who took part in the cycle and to our support team in the cars.
Another
£4600 for Maire Currie .
We
had a bite to eat at Malin, before heading home. The minibus made a few
detours on the way home as a few of the lads needed hydrated.
